Join us for our next “Race and the Colour of Democracy” visiting speaker event!

Our next speaker, Dr. Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, will present a paper titled: “European Colonization of the Americas and the Birth of Racial Capitalism.”

Dr. Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz is Professor Emerita of Ethnic Studies at California State University. She received her PhD from the University of California – Los Angeles. A scholar, author, and activist, she specializes in national and international social justice, Indigenous, and women’s studies. She is also the author of NUMEROUS award-winning books, including An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States, The Great Sioux Nation: An Oral History of the Sioux Nation and its Struggle for Sovereignty, Roots of Resistance: A History of Land Tenure in New Mexico and Indians of the Americas: Human Rights and Self-Determination.
